Lake ice and river ice products, provided by the CryoLand service, include:

• Lake Ice Extent (4 classes) based on medium resolution optical satellite data

• First and last day of ice cover

• River ice jam, flood inundation area from high resolution SAR data

• Snow Burden on Lake Ice based on medium resolution optical imagery

The key task is to tailoring the products to maximize the benefit to the CryoLand end-users. This involves trading off spatial detail (spatial resolution) for increased area coverage or vice versa. The spatial resolution of the lake ice extent product is 250 x 250 m, distinguishing between four classes: full snow cover, partial snow/white ice, clear ice and open water.

Other products, as the river ice jam or flood inundation area from high resolution data are provided with an increased spatial resolution.
